The Tamaulipas Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (Seduma) reported that the state government will file a formal complaint with federal authorities regarding the discovery of metallic debris on Bagdad Beach, which allegedly belong to a space rocket launched in late May from Texas, United States.

In this regard, Karina Lizeth Saldívar, head of the state agency, specified that the complaint will be filed by the Tamaulipas Environmental and Urban Prosecutor’s Office with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa).

The state official assured that the state is cooperating with the relevant federal agencies to ensure this incident is handled responsibly and in accordance with the legal framework.

In this regard, she indicated that once the federal government takes up the case, the Tamaulipas government will maintain active communication to follow up on the matter while determining the exact origin of the waste.

However, as they pose a potential risk to the coastal environment and security, the Secretary of Urban Development and Environment urged the public not to approach or handle these metal objects.
