A total of 300 members of the National Guard arrived in Matamoros, Tamaulipas as part of the Northern Border Operation, which are added to the 1,200 that are already in the state.
Diego Rangel Cruz, in charge of the Border Operation of the National Guard, reported that the elements will be carrying out surveillance patrols in different sectors of the city in order to guarantee the safety of the citizens.
“We already have 1,500 elements throughout the State of Tamaulipas, 300 more elements arrived to reinforce the area and we are going to carry out the work of the Border Operation as our superiors have initiated,” said Rangel Cruz.
It is contemplated that more elements will join since it is estimated that 207 officers will be deployed to Nuevo Laredo, 186 to Ciudad Mier, 135 to Reynosa and 94 will be guarding Playa Bagdad in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
After the arrival of the elements to the Eighth Motorized Cavalry Regiment in Matamoros, they were given the go-ahead to begin patrols around the city, especially on the highway to Ciudad Victoria as well as International Bridges.
“The intention is to reinforce the northern border to combat drug and human trafficking, the intention is to be able to share these two issues, so we will be permanently from Nuevo Laredo to Matamoros carrying out these operations,” said the person in charge of the operation.
