The second-floor or elevated viaduct project in Tampico and the surrounding metropolitan area continues to raise questions among the business sector, which has asked authorities to reveal where the project will begin and end, how its access points will operate, and what will happen to businesses located along its route.
Representatives of business chambers warned that so far they do not know precisely the route, the entry and exit points, or the possible impacts during construction, and therefore requested that working meetings be held with authorities from Public Works and Urban Development.
Business Owners Ask Where Tampico’s Second Floor Will Begin and End
The president of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) of Tampico, Eduardo Manzur, noted that although the project could represent a significant benefit for regional mobility:
“What is needed in the area, which may very well be a good project, is for the people from Public Works and Urban Development to come and explain the project in detail and show the advantages the project could have,” Manzur said.
The businessman stated that so far, only conceptual sketches have been presented, without specifying the road logistics or the entry and exit points.
“There is no information about where you get on, where you get off, whether, when you clear a four-and-a-half-kilometer stretch, you will get off and create a bottleneck farther ahead, whether you will defer it, or whether there is a solution designed to prevent that from happening,” he questioned.
Manzur emphasized that it is essential to open an exercise in transparency and consult with the sectors involved.
“The project needs to be explained in detail and there needs to be a meeting with the business sector, the social sector, academia, and road specialists so they can offer their opinions. You cannot support or speak in favor of something you do not know and about which you have doubts,” he concluded.
Businesses Want to Know How Construction of the Second Floor Will Affect Them
For her part, the president of the Regional Association of Merchants and Industrialists of the Mexican Republic (ARCIM), Rosa Edith Deantes, confirmed that the sector is formalizing a request for a meeting with the heads of Public Works to address the details of the viaduct.
Deantes expressed the interest of businesses located along the project’s route in learning about the temporary impacts and the project’s operations.
“We need to know exactly where construction is going to begin, because there are also businesses there that could be affected. We do not have a real understanding of what this project will be like or whether there will be a cost for those of us who may use these access points. We still do not know,” said the ARCIM leader.
Thus, as plans to build the second floor in Tampico and the surrounding metropolitan area move forward, business owners are waiting to learn about the executive project and the measures planned to reduce impacts on mobility and on the businesses located along the route of the elevated viaduct.
