At least 120 elements of the Special Forces of the Mexican Army arrived in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, to reinforce security and inhibit the activities of organized crime in that border strip with the United States

On board a Mexican Air Force aircraft, the military personnel arrived on Friday afternoon at the Quetzalcóatl International Airport in Nuevo Laredo, and in coordination with the authorities of the three levels of government, they will carry out deterrence, prevention and patrol tasks, reported the Secretary of Defense (Sedena).

In addition, they will install military security posts to reduce crime rates and intentional homicides in the municipality, with the presence of criminal cells related to the Northeast Cartel.

The objective of the military presence is to create an atmosphere of tranquility in the population, acting at all times with full respect for human rights, reported the Sedena.

He stressed that Special Forces units are characterized by their great mobility, flexibility and deployment capacity, weapons, material, equipment and specialized training to carry out inter-institutional operations in coordination with federal, state and municipal authorities.

The reinforcement of security in Nuevo Laredo occurred two months after a video was released in which elements of the Army are seen committing an extrajudicial execution against five civilians at a point in the city of Tamaulipas, which led to the arrest of 16 soldiers who are imprisoned in Military Camp 1-A in Mexico City.
