Tamaulipas, an entity governed by Américo Villarreal, ranked as the second state with the highest level of self-reported well-being in Mexico, according to the results of the National Self-Reported Well-Being Survey (ENBIARE) 2025 conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The state obtained an average score of 8.79 points in life satisfaction, surpassing the national average of 8.62 points.
The measurement, carried out among people aged 18 and older, evaluates the perception of life satisfaction on a scale from 0 to 10 and aims to generate information that can be used for the design of public policies focused on improving the quality of life of the population.
Tamaulipas Holds Second Place Nationally in Well-Being
According to the Inegi report, the five states with the highest life satisfaction levels were:
- Coahuila: 8.85 points
- Tamaulipas: 8.79 points
- Durango: 8.78 points
- Sinaloa: 8.77 points
- Baja California Sur: 8.77 points
In contrast, the states with the lowest levels were:
- Oaxaca: 8.32 points
- Tabasco: 8.37 points
- Michoacán: 8.48 points
- Guerrero: 8.51 points
- Zacatecas: 8.51 points
Life Satisfaction Increased in Mexico
The study reveals that subjective well-being improved compared to the 2021 edition, when the national average satisfaction level was 8.45 points. By 2025, the indicator increased to 8.62 points, reflecting a recovery in the perception of well-being after the COVID-19 pandemic period.
The survey also identifies that factors such as health, emotional stability, educational level, marital status, and economic situation directly influence the perception of well-being.
For example, people who rated their health as good or very good reported an average satisfaction level of 8.93 points, while those who considered their health poor or very poor registered only 7.08 points.
Economic Well-Being in Tamaulipas
Regarding economic conditions, 17.7% of the population in the state governed by Morena member Américo Villarreal reported having difficulty or great difficulty covering regular household expenses, a percentage very close to the national average of 17.3%.
The figure was below states such as:
- Guerrero: 28.1%
- Tabasco: 26.3%
- Oaxaca: 25.8%
What Does ENBIARE Measure?
The National Self-Reported Well-Being Survey (ENBIARE) 2025 is Inegi’s main statistical instrument for measuring the subjective well-being of the Mexican population.
The study analyzes aspects such as:
- Life satisfaction
- Emotional balance
- Sense of purpose
- Social, family, and economic conditions
Additionally, the report indicates that the national emotional balance reached 5.29 points on a scale from -10 to 10, a figure higher than the 5.07 points recorded in 2021, reflecting a predominance of positive emotions among the population.
According to Inegi, these indicators help understand how people evaluate their quality of life and serve as a foundation for designing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies aimed at strengthening social well-being in Mexico.
