Tamaulipas recorded a 73 percent reduction in vehicle theft between 2015 and 2025, with reported cases dropping from 7,326 to 1,944, according to the state’s Public Security Spokesperson’s Office.
With these figures, the state ranked 14th nationwide among the states with the fewest stolen vehicles, based on data released by the Tamaulipas government.
The state administration noted that during the January–May 2026 period, the incidence of this crime decreased by another 8 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
The spokesperson’s office added that no reports of tractor or boat theft were filed during the first five months of the year, meaning both categories remained at zero incidents.
The state government attributed the decline to the coordinated efforts of the agencies comprising the Peace Roundtable (Mesa de Paz), as well as to strengthened prevention, surveillance, and investigative activities.
It also highlighted that citizen participation through the filing of reports has contributed to the reduction of this crime, noting that the drop in vehicle theft means fewer situations that put the public’s safety at risk.
