With the rainy and tropical cyclone season set to intensify in the coming days, 40 of Tamaulipas’ 43 municipalities are at risk from hydrometeorological events, including 28 categorized as being at very high risk, reported the National Civil Protection Coordination.

The assessment was presented during the establishment of the Inter-institutional Command Post for the 2026 season, a mechanism through which federal, state, and municipal authorities will coordinate prevention and response efforts in the event of potential emergencies.

The National Civil Protection Coordinator, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, explained that the state’s vulnerability stems from the presence of numerous hydrological basins, rivers, and streams, as well as its coastal location on the Gulf of Mexico.

The technical document identifies areas susceptible to flooding, overflows, strong winds, landslides, and other impacts associated with tropical cyclones.

According to the official evaluation, only three municipalities are outside the high and very high risk levels.

During the extraordinary session of the State Civil Protection Council, authorities formalized the establishment of the Inter-institutional Command Post, which will remain active throughout the season.

Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya assured that the state will maintain constant coordination with the Federal government to address any eventuality.

In addition, the state government presented the Clima Tamaulipas platform, comprised of a network of 20 weather stations for real-time monitoring of atmospheric variables and meteorological conditions in different regions of the state.
