Tamaulipas Government Highlights Positive Results in Tourism, Mobility, and Security During Peak Holiday Season

The Secretary General of the Government, Héctor Joel Villegas González, highlighted the positive results in tourism, mobility, and security in Tamaulipas during the Easter holiday period.

In an interview prior to the honors ceremony presided over by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, the official reported that more than 2 million people visited Tamaulipas during the previous week, a number that continued to rise over the weekend.

He noted that, at the Governor’s instruction, supervisory patrols were conducted on highways and at inspection points, particularly in the Oyama area, where high traffic volume was observed, mainly from south to north, heading towards Monterrey.

Villegas González emphasized that, despite the high volume of traffic and the resulting congestion on the roads, no serious accidents were reported in the state, except for one isolated incident that occurred outside of Tamaulipas.

He also highlighted that tourist destinations such as beaches and municipalities with a tourism focus reported record visitor numbers, solidifying the state’s position as a leader in tourism growth.

He also emphasized the positive impact of new transportation routes, such as the Tula-Ocampo highway, which has facilitated the arrival of visitors from central Mexico. In this context, he mentioned the case of Miramar Beach, where recent surveys reflect a notable increase in tourists from Guanajuato, particularly from León, who can now reach the area in an estimated four and a half to five hours thanks to the new highway infrastructure.

Regarding logistics, he indicated that the growth of freight transport has also increased the use of these routes, generating greater congestion similar to that seen on other major roads such as Rumbo Nuevo. However, he assured that there is a strong presence of state and federal authorities to guarantee security throughout the region.

Regarding recent reports of alleged highway robberies, he clarified that a case circulating on social media actually occurred in the state of Nuevo León; however, he reiterated that there is ongoing coordination with neighboring states to strengthen security and ensure safe conditions for travelers.

The Secretary General emphasized that the State Government maintains constant engagement in peacebuilding initiatives and announced that the Secretary of Public Security will appear before the Legislative Branch to provide further information on the actions implemented.

Finally, he highlighted the progress made in citizen services, noting that, in the first quarter of 2026, the 911 emergency service has already received 50 commendations from the public, reflecting the compassionate service provided by agencies such as Civil Protection, the State Guard, the National Guard, and the National Migration Institute.

With these results, he reiterated Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya’s commitment to continue strengthening the conditions of peace, security, and well-being for the people of Tamaulipas.
