Reynosa, Tamaulipas. The Attorney General’s Office destroyed 23 vehicles with homemade armor, known as “monsters,” secured in operations against organized crime carried out between November 2025 and January 2026 in this border region of northeastern Mexico as part of the Destination of Goods and Objects of Crime Program.
According to the FGR, the units were allegedly linked to criminal groups and related to 19 investigation folders opened for various federal crimes. The vehicles were secured in coordinated actions between the State Guard and federal forces, under the strategy of the Security Cabinet of the Government of Mexico, with the participation of the Ministry of National Defense.
The destruction was carried out in Reynosa under the leadership of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Regional Control in Tamaulipas. The event was attended by representatives of the three levels of government, as well as experts from the Criminal Investigation Agency and personnel from the Internal Control Body of the Prosecutor’s Office itself, who supervised that the procedure was carried out in accordance with current regulations.
According to federal authorities, this type of vehicle with homemade armor is usually used by criminal organizations to confront security forces and maintain territorial control, so its destruction seeks to prevent it from being used again in illicit activities.
The FGR pointed out that these actions are part of a permanent policy to combat organized crime and weaken its operational infrastructure, particularly in areas with a high incidence of violence associated with armed groups.
