With an emphasis on natural, gastronomic, cultural, and adventure experiences, the Government of Tamaulipas is already preparing the first nine tourist routes for attendees of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, Secretary of Tourism in Tamaulipas, pointed out that the focus is on the proximity to Monterrey, one of the tournament’s main venues, which positions Tamaulipas as the ideal destination to complement the World Cup experience.
The offerings range from the southern region with its beaches and port, the mountains in González and Gómez Farías, to the capital, Ciudad Victoria, and other attractions throughout the state, among others that will be announced shortly.
“Under Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya’s administration, we are promoting and strengthening training, certification, and the National Tourism Registry to offer visitors the best experiences and quality service in Tamaulipas’ tourist destinations,” explained the state official.
He indicated that this effort is the result of coordinated work with travel agencies, hotels, tour operators, tour guides, and other stakeholders in the sector, focused on attracting as many enthusiasts and their companions as possible.
He noted that these routes invite visitors to discover the best of Tamaulipas, from beaches like Miramar and Barra del Tordo, the magical biodiversity of the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), legendary flavors like carne a la tampiqueña (Tampico-style beef), enchiladas tultecas (Tulco-style enchiladas), and many other attractions.
The state tourism official explained that this package of routes includes the Cenote Route to the summit of the volcano; the Navigator’s Route; Historic Tampico; the Community Tourism Route of Faith, Culture, and Nature; the El Cielo Route, the San José ejido (communal land); the Archaeological Route; and the Mante-Ocampo-Tula Tourist Route, among others.
“With this strategy, Tamaulipas is preparing to receive thousands of international tourists who, in addition to enjoying football in Monterrey, will discover a state full of contrasts and hospitality. Tamaulipas is ready to score a major tourism goal for the 2026 World Cup,” he concluded.
