This year, between new openings, expansions, and the city’s overall commercial growth, at least 5,000 jobs are projected to be created in Nuevo Laredo during the first half of the year.
This rapid growth is supported by the synergy between the state and municipal governments and the private sector. The state Secretary of Economy, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, stated that this collaboration is driving Nuevo Laredo’s economic growth. She explained that, for example, Nacional Financiera, the state government, and the municipal government support business development with low-interest loans, in addition to streamlining procedures and providing other support.
Thanks to this, local businesses are starting 2026 stable and growing. Last year, 440 new businesses opened, representing one or two establishments per day, which in turn generate jobs. If this trend continues into the beginning of this year, the number of people finding stable employment will continue to rise.
“We’re talking about 4 percent growth in the commerce and services sector. These businesses, which are already open, are part of this network of entrepreneurs who support and help each other grow,” commented Lorena Cavazos, Secretary of Economic Development for Nuevo Laredo.
She mentioned that all these businesses generate jobs; the smaller ones employ one or two people, while others employ 10 or 15. “There’s strength in numbers, especially in a city and a country where we depend on these SMEs, where the vast majority of people are employed by them, and which offer significant internal growth due to the close relationship with the owners.
We’re seeing more and more businesses, with better marketing strategies and local positioning,” she stated. She estimated that between 4,000 and 5,000 job openings will be available in various sectors in January and the following three months. Events like the Job Fair and the “Jobs in Your Neighborhood” program help achieve these goals. The maquiladora sector closed 2025 with 5.25 percent growth compared to the previous year.
The expansion of Medline, the start of operations at the Pascual bottling plant, and the projection of nearly 3,000 new jobs reinforce a positive outlook for 2026 in Nuevo Laredo. Furthermore, to fill vacancies and strengthen operations, ANAM has launched recruitment drives for new positions. Approximately 800 vacancies have been identified for the Nuevo Laredo location, with an estimated 240 of those positions reserved for local residents.
