Residents of Tamaulipas should prepare for a significant change in the weather. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the presence of two cold fronts – No. 7 and No. 8 – along with strong jet streams, will bring heavy rains, strong winds, and even the possibility of tornadoes. Here’s what you need to know about the forecast and how it could impact your day.
Temperature Forecast
In Tamaulipas, temperatures will vary throughout the day. The morning will start with a cool environment, especially in mountainous areas where fog banks could reduce visibility. As the day progresses, temperatures will rise, reaching highs between 30 and 35°C, offering a warm to hot afternoon. This fluctuation is common for the season, so be prepared for both cool and warm weather, especially if you plan outdoor activities.
Rain and Thunderstorms
Significant rain is expected. Cold front No. 7, stationed in northeastern Mexico and combined with the subtropical jet stream, will likely bring heavy rain to Tamaulipas. Showers with precipitation levels between 25 and 50 mm are forecast. These rains can be intense in short periods, potentially leading to flash flooding, especially in urban areas with poor drainage systems.
Residents should exercise caution when driving, as these rains could reduce visibility and cause puddles. Stay aware of local advisories, as authorities may issue alerts for possible risks.
Tornadoes and Strong Winds
The forecast warns of possible strong winds and even the formation of tornadoes. The presence of the subtropical jet stream along with cold front No. 8 will generate wind gusts between 60 and 80 km/h. These winds could create dust devils and, in extreme cases, cause whirlwinds or tornadoes, particularly in areas of Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
Since this type of weather is unusual for the region, residents are advised to stay indoors if possible and secure objects that could be moved by the wind. Stay informed through official meteorological channels for real-time updates.
