On behalf of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, the representative of the Government of Tamaulipas in Mexico City, Alejandro Rábago Hernández, participated in the welcome meeting for Mrs. Meg O’Neil, Executive Director of Woodside Energy.

The Australian ambassador to Mexico, Rachel Moseley, was the host of the event with which said company, the largest private oil and gas organization in Australia, officially arrives in our country.

In her acceptance speech, Meg O’Neil thanked the welcome to Mexico and the opportunity to participate in such an important project that will be developed off the coast of Tamaulipas, in the Gulf of Mexico.

It is important to mention that this is an investment that amounts to 11,679 million dollars, one of the largest in the history of the country, aimed at developing a deepwater oil field, 180 kilometers east of Matamoros. The goal is to produce, starting in 2028, 110 thousand barrels of crude oil and 90 million cubic feet of gas per day.

In his speech, the head of the Tamaulipas Representation, Alejandro Rábago, stated that it will also be an investment that will generate regional development, economic reactivation, high-quality jobs, income for families and well-being for society.

“For our governor Américo Villarreal, this Woodside project with Pemex not only consolidates our state as an energy power, but also contributes to the energy transition promoted by the Government of Mexico,” he said before more than 200 people gathered to welcome Woodside Energy.

He indicated that exactly one year ago, then-President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Governor Américo Villarreal and Woodside executives announced the project in partnership with Petróleos Mexicanos. “And, as you know, a new stage has just begun in our country full of hope and optimism under the leadership of our president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.”

“It is time for women,” said Rábago Hernández to Mrs. Meg O’Neil and Mrs. Rachel Moseley, executive director of Woodside and ambassador of Australia in Mexico, respectively.

At the end of the speeches, the people present were delighted by the voice of Blanca Pulido, one of the main interpreters of traditional Tamaulipas music, accompanied by the folkloric ballet of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas.
