Given the great demand for health services from foreigners due to the good prices offered by Mexico, as well as the connectivity, infrastructure and quality services, the government of Tamaulipas seeks to consolidate the southern zone as a Medical Cluster.

The Secretary of Tourism in Tamaulipas, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, announced the strategy of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya to position medical tourism in the southern zone of the state.

In a meeting held at the facilities of the Center for Attention and Protection of Tourists (CAPTA), he pointed out the importance of creating the Southern Medical Cluster, in addition to the one in the north.

“Taking full advantage of the quality services in the area, the costs and the daily air connectivity to Houston in the United States, from the “Francisco Javier Mina” International Airport. It is a great opportunity to have the infrastructure of hotels, restaurants, as well as the latest technology medical equipment and specialists in the health sector in the south of the state,” he said.

He said that “foreigners prefer to travel to Mexico to receive medical services in areas such as cardiology, orthopedics, cosmetic surgery and bariatric surgery, among others.”

“Therefore, the location of Tamaulipas in the south and in the north, as well as the costs among other factors, such as the tourist offer that it has, make the state more attractive,” he indicated.

The meeting was attended by the president of the Matamoros Medical Cluster, Alfredo Pedraza, as well as businessmen and directors of hospitals in the southern area, the president of the Hotel Association, Alberto Ortega Ortega, the undersecretary of infrastructure, María Amos Cavazos Bustamante, the director of the Tampico international airport, Eder Jiménez, as well as businessmen from the transportation sector, among others.
