After being reported kidnapped last March 14, when she was traveling on a highway in northern Mexico, Russian citizen María Rigovich was found alive in an operation by security agencies in Tamaulipas, according to local news media. .
“The 23-year-old girl was found by agents from the Specialized Unit to Combat Kidnapping, confirmed a source from the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office, close to the investigation,” indicated the news portal La Expresion.
A few hours earlier, at 7:27 PM on Saturday, the Russian Embassy in Mexico reported that one of its citizens had been kidnapped in the north of the country.
Through a statement on its social networks, the diplomatic headquarters indicated that according to the information in its possession, the woman “traveled in a vehicle from Monterrey to the city of Reynosa, accompanied by her Mexican acquaintances.”
Likewise, the embassy noted that “it is in contact with local police authorities, as well as with the husband of the kidnapped Russian woman. We keep the situation under constant control.”
In a note from the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, it was recorded that the husband of the kidnapped woman – whom he identified as Maria Rigovich, originally from Moscow – reported that “on March 14 she was driving to the city of Reynosa, located right on the border between both countries (Mexico and the United States), with a local family from the city of Monterrey.”
According to the aforementioned office, the victim “managed to report that they were being ‘persecuted by the cartel,’” after which she stopped contacting her husband. She later sent him a message asking him to transfer $1,500 to a card whose number “she would tell him.”
For its part, the Russian media Komsomolskaya Pravda reported on its website that Rigovich, 23, managed to publish an audio message on his blog in which he said: “Guys, I’m recording this in case I die. Please pray for us, I love you all so much. “They will most likely kill us.”
Likewise, he quoted “Brenda”, one of the people who accompanied the Russian citizen, who said: “What saved us was that there was a child in the car, my 9-year-old son got scared and started crying. . One of the bandits said: “I have two children too, we will let you go, but she (Rigovich) will have to stay.”
According to “Brenda,” the armed men who intercepted them took her car keys and took her, her father, and her son to the road, “where they were left alone.”
