The transformation of tourism in Tamaulipas is underway.

11

Currently, the tourism industry supports around 125,000 direct and indirect jobs, distributed across approximately 15,000 commercial establishments.

The government of Tamaulipas, led by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, continues to demonstrate through concrete actions its commitment to boosting tourism in the state. At the same time, it promotes a strong sense of identity that helps strengthen the roots and traditions of both native residents and those who have chosen Tamaulipas as their home.

To achieve this, the state government is building strategic alliances with different sectors, especially with the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT), considered a key partner in the effort to position the state as a world-class tourist destination that extends beyond its traditional attractions such as Playa Miramar in Ciudad Madero, the Port of Tampico, and La Pesca in Soto La Marina.

These three destinations have earned prestige and created a loyal tourist base over the years, serving as important references for promoting other natural attractions throughout the state.

The Secretary of Tourism of Tamaulipas, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism through daily initiatives. The Tourism Secretariat is currently holding meetings with the UAT to carefully analyze tourist routes that can either be modernized or strengthened with cultural and social approaches.

The collaboration also includes developing initiatives to enrich tourism routes through cultural, social, and community-based perspectives, where local traditions and history play a major role in creating regional identity. Other efforts include training tour guides and incorporating new themed experiences with active participation from local communities.

In Tamaulipas, tourism contributes 6.4% of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In recent years, the industry has shown strong momentum. For example, by the end of last year, the state welcomed more than 17.4 million visitors and generated an economic impact exceeding 16 billion pesos.

As a result, both state and federal governments have increased investment in the tourism sector to strengthen infrastructure. Recently, 349 million pesos were allocated for the improvement, rehabilitation, and construction of tourism-related projects in various municipalities.

Today, the tourism industry sustains around 125,000 direct and indirect jobs across roughly 15,000 businesses. The three main destinations mentioned earlier account for 56.3% of hotel occupancy in Tamaulipas.

Municipality Restores Road Connectivity Across 7,300 Square Meters of Streets

The administration of Mayor Eduardo “Lalo” Gattás has focused on rehabilitating streets and avenues that had become nearly impassable. Instead of prioritizing flashy public works projects that generate temporary attention, the government chose to invest in making roads safer and more accessible for both public and private transportation.

Hopefully, future administrations will maintain these improvements and prevent the city from returning to the poor conditions experienced during the administrations of Xicoténcatl González and María del Pilar Gómez Leal.

As the capital of the state, Ciudad Victoria previously benefited from strong support for paving projects and the maintenance of parks and gardens, especially before the political transition to PAN leadership. As the seat of the three branches of government, Victoria should remain one of the best-maintained and most presentable cities in the state.

In that regard, Eduardo Gattás Báez’s administration recently reported the restoration of streets and avenues through pothole repair, grading, and leveling programs covering 7,580 square meters across different sectors of the city, improving residents’ quality of life.

Monday Is Accountant’s Day — Congratulations!

This May 25 marks Accountant’s Day in Mexico. If you know an accountant or receive services from one, don’t forget to congratulate them.

Accounting was not always recognized as a formal profession. It officially gained professional recognition on May 25, 1907, when Fernando Díez Barroso presented his professional examination and received the first degree as a “Commercial Accountant.”

Díez Barroso later became recognized as a pioneer and promoter of accounting as a formal academic profession. In 1917, he founded the Association of Certified Accountants, today known as the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants (IMCP). In 1925, the Ministry of Public Education officially revalidated his title and granted him the degree of Certified Public Accountant.

Congratulations to all professionals who have made accounting their career.

Students Celebrated Their Day on Saturday, May 23

On that occasion, UAT Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado addressed the student community with a message encouraging students to trust themselves, remain persistent in pursuing their goals, and continue building their future through hard work and education. He also reminded them of the important role they play in the development of Tamaulipas and the country.

Since the celebration fell on a non-working day with reduced campus activity, the rector shared his message through the university’s official social media channels. Among other points, he stated:

“The university stage is a period of challenges and learning that profoundly shapes students’ personal and professional lives. During this phase, young people face important challenges and the demands of professional education. However, it is also a stage of growth, discovery, and the strengthening of ideals that will define the path of a generation committed to the development of its community.”

He added that the UAT is working to strengthen a humanistic, student-centered educational model that responds to the real needs of students by providing spaces where they can prepare academically, develop their skills, and find opportunities to build their own life projects.

Finally, Rector Dámaso Anaya encouraged students to maintain confidence in themselves, persevere in achieving their goals, and continue building their future through dedication and preparation.
