Southern Tamaulipas anticipates a significantly more positive economic outlook for 2026, thanks to the announcement and development of major investment projects in the energy, port, and infrastructure sectors.

Business leaders in the region have expressed confidence that this year will surpass the previous one in terms of private and public capital inflows.

Alejandro Sobera Biotegui, president of the Council of Business Institutions of Southern Tamaulipas (CIEST), emphasized that the region is well-positioned to attract a greater volume of investment.

“Several important investments have been announced, and we believe that, given the conditions we have in the southern region, we will certainly be able to attract more capital, investment, and benefits,” stated the business leader.

One of the strategic projects mentioned is Campo Trión, an initiative with an investment of approximately $11 billion. According to Sobera Biotegui, this development will generate considerable economic activity, directly benefiting Tampico and Matamoros.

The project is currently 43% complete and is scheduled to begin drilling the first well this year, with production estimated to start between late 2027 and early 2028.

The Campo Trión logistics hub will be located in the port of Tampico, guaranteeing economic benefits for the entire southern region, while drilling operations will take place in Matamoros, in the northern part of the state.

Another vital element for economic reactivation is the development of the industrial park in Altamira, considered essential for strengthening the region’s electrical infrastructure.

Among the most important projects is the construction of a gas-fired cogeneration plant, which will improve the energy capacity of the industrial corridor.

In addition, there are public infrastructure projects that promise to boost the local economy through the hiring of supplier companies, the provision of materials, and job creation. These include:

The elevated highway (Second Level)

The BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) or Metrobús system
