With the slogan “The countryside resists, the countryside demands, and the countryside does not surrender,” agricultural producers in Tamaulipas announced a day of blockades and demonstrations for Monday, November 24, as part of a national movement demanding greater support for agriculture.

The actions in the state even include a possible blockade of the Pharr International Bridge. The information was confirmed by Juan Manuel Salinas, spokesperson for the Northern Tamaulipas Regional Agricultural Union (UARNT).

He explained that the actions are being carried out in solidarity with the National Front for the Rescue of Mexican Agriculture (FNRCM), the National Association of Carriers (ANTAC), and national transportation chambers that have joined the call to action.

Tamaulipas farmers block the Matamoros-Victoria highway: these are their demands. As part of the protests, they blocked the Matamoros-Victoria highway at kilometer 201, known as “La Y.”

The farmers called for a gathering at 9:00 a.m. at various points throughout the state, from where they would later march to international highways and bridges. The designated meeting points for the demonstrations are as follows:

River Plateau: Díaz Ordaz, Camargo, and Miguel Alemán: Meeting point: Villarreal.

Reynosa and Méndez: Reynosa-Méndez: Meeting point: Kilometer 30 of the Reynosa-Monterrey highway.

San Fernando, part of Reynosa, and part of Río Bravo: Meeting point: Brecha 102 (SADER). After gathering, the farmers will march to the Pharr International Bridge.

Matamoros, Valle Hermoso, and Río Bravo. Meeting point: Progreso Bridge (highway).

So far in 2025, farmers have carried out at least seven mobilizations, including protests and road blockades, specifically on the Victoria-Matamoros highway.

In addition to the closure of the Pharr-Reynosa Bridge, which specializes in the movement of cargo from the United States, on July 7th and 11th, the first lasting 12 hours and the second four, which caused disruption to trade organizations.

Last October, joining the national call to action, they again blocked traffic on the Victoria-Matamoros highway twice—on the 14th and 27th—at the Y-intersection leading to San Fernando.

In 2024 alone, farmers carried out 18 mobilizations, including protests and blockades, between April 20 and September 4.

According to the producers, after a meeting held this Friday with members of Congress and representatives of the Federal Government, they did not receive a satisfactory response, so they reaffirmed their decision to block bridges and highways this Monday, an action that Tamaulipas has also joined.
