Tamaulipas has positioned itself as the safest state on Mexico’s northern border, a significant change recognized both nationally and by its own residents.

This was confirmed by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, who highlighted the security results achieved during his administration.

This achievement has not only changed the perception of the state but has also generated more favorable conditions for economic development, tourism, and investment, factors that directly depend on a safe environment.

What security advances did Américo Villarreal highlight?

During a formal event in Altamira, where he laid the cornerstone of a new wastewater treatment plant, the governor shared data that supports this improvement.

He noted that Tamaulipas is currently among the ten safest states in the country, and first among those along the border with the United States.

One of the most representative data points of this progress is the reduction in intentional homicides. While in 2018, an average of 147 cases were recorded per month, today the number has dropped to just 17.

This change has been endorsed by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, the agency responsible for monitoring and evaluating crime levels in each state.

What has been the key behind this improvement in security?

Américo Villarreal emphasized that these results would not have been possible without the joint efforts of authorities and citizens.

He emphasized the importance of citizen participation, especially with regard to the timely reporting of crimes, which has allowed security forces to act more efficiently and with greater precision.

He also highlighted that coordination between the three levels of government, as well as the strengthening of police forces and investment in technology, have been decisive factors in this process.

What does this mean for the future of Tamaulipas?

Advances in security represent a unique opportunity for Tamaulipas to establish itself as a national leader in sustainable development, economic growth, and social well-being.

A secure environment not only protects the population but also builds trust among investors and visitors, which translates into jobs, infrastructure, and a higher quality of life.

In regions like Altamira, which have a strong industrial and logistics focus, stable security is key to spurring strategic projects like the one presented during the official event.
