Enjoying an exquisite, delicious and aromatic cup of coffee, surrounded by good friends: the cats, is the concept of Coffee and Cats, which shares with its visitors the company of the kittens that live and play all over the place.
The entrepreneurial sisters, Ale and Addy Romero, are in charge of creating delicious drinks, as well as caring for the 35 cats that live in the coffee shop.
This business was created almost two years ago, being the first of its kind in the southern area of Tamaulipas, which adapts what is a traditional coffee shop with the company of cats, and its inspiration was people who like cats, but for various reasons cannot have one at home.
“My sister studied pastry making, so she is in charge of everything that is sold, she does everything, we took courses to know how to prepare a coffee and from there we decided to open a cat-themed coffee shop,” Ale shared.
A Tampico cafe that promotes adoption
In the words of Ale Romero, they are not a cat shelter, they only serve the cats with which they can be responsible with their earnings from the cafe, and they are in charge of promoting adoption among the cafe’s own clients.
“Currently we have 35 cats, all of which are sterilized and we put them up for adoption. Fortunately, right now we have about five or six adoptions among the cafe’s own clients,” she explained.
A pleasant place with a very cat-like menu
From michi conchas and michi pastels, their personalized menu with cat shapes and names is another of their attractions.
Passing through classic cafe drinks such as a catfé, a catpucchino or an ameowricano, hot and cold drinks, and the finest michi pastries made at home and without commercial products.
She also added that for the celebration of International Cat Day, which is celebrated on February 20, they will have some michi promotions on their products.
Ale Romero comments that their most popular products are the michi concha that is regularly ordered, and during holiday times they prepare, for example, the michi rosca de reyes and the michi pan de muerto.
Coexistence between clients and kittens looking for a home
Part of the experience of going to a cat café is precisely to live with them, since the felines walk around the place looking for caresses and to play with the clients.
Both entrepreneurs concluded with the reactions of the clients having been very positive and they have managed to balance the coexistence of those who want to enjoy a good coffee, with the playful personality of the cats.
Coffee and Cats is located on the Tampico-Mante highway No. 1810, in the northern area of Tampico, and opens its doors on Tuesday through Sunday afternoons, offering its innovative creations in pastries and hot and cold coffee drinks.
