A total of 198 establishments, including Oxxos and Oxxo Gas gas stations, had to be closed in this municipality due to violent acts so far this year.
The corporation, based in Monterrey, Nuevo León, detailed that 191 convenience stores and seven gas stations were closed in July 2024.
“At Oxxo and Oxxo Gas we suspended the operation of our businesses in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, due to acts of violence that put the integrity of employees at risk in said municipality,” FEMSA announced in a brief statement.
FEMSA did not disclose what the “violent acts” were that put the workforce at risk, although it indicated that these events have already been reported and that they remain in communication with the authorities.
To date, these businesses remain closed in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
This business closure has the business sector worried, first of all, because these are the sources of employment for at least 800 people; and in second place, crime seems unstoppable in that border city.
