Potholes in streets and avenues, as well as insufficient public lighting, are considered by Tamaulipas residents to be the main problems of municipal jurisdiction that must be prioritized in the three-year terms that are starting.
In Tampico, the problems are received as an inheritance, while in Victoria, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo, the re-elected governments will have three more years to address the deficiencies.
As part of the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (Ensu), Inegi included a section in which it surveys the perception of the most important problems of the main cities.
For Tamaulipas, it includes Tampico, Victoria, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo, asking citizens aged 18 and older their opinion on problems that their governments must resolve.
Demands of Tamaulipas residents
After the potholes in streets and avenues and the insufficient public lighting in the neighborhoods, they cited the inefficiency in the cleaning and garbage collection service and neglected parks and gardens.
They noted the need for better road infrastructure to avoid traffic jams for vehicles that circulate in areas with the highest traffic, especially during rush hour.
In the survey, as of the second quarter of the year, potholes were mentioned by 52% of the citizens of Tampico, 88% in Reynosa, 79% in Nuevo Laredo and 93% in Victoria.
Regarding insufficient public lighting, it was mentioned by 46% of those surveyed in Tampico, 72% in Reynosa, 58% in Nuevo Laredo and 64% in Victoria.
As for the inefficiency in garbage collection, in Tampico it was 23%, in Reynosa 47%, in Nuevo Laredo 33.8% and in Victoria 43%.
Finally, 23% in Tampico, 67% in Reynosa, 34% in Nuevo Laredo and 53% in the state capital see neglected parks and gardens.
This Tuesday, October 1, the new municipal administrations began in Tamaulipas, however, of these three cities only Tampico renews government with Mónica Villarreal, while Carlos Peña, Eduardo Gattás and Carmen Lilia Canturosas, repeat in Reynosa, Victoria and Nuevo Laredo, respectively.
