The roof of the Santa Cruz church falls during mass, leaving several people injured and others trapped.
This Sunday afternoon, while dozens of people were celebrating religious activities in the Church of the Holy Cross in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, the collapse of the roof was recorded, which caused the death of several people and others being injured.
At 3:18 p.m. this Sunday, the roof collapsed in the Santa Cruz Parish, in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas.
The parish is located in the Unidad Nacional neighborhood, where according to various testimonies a baptism mass was being held at the time of the accident.
The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson estimated that there were around 100 people inside the building at the time of the accident, of which around 30 may have been trapped.
They report nine dead people and the rescue of 10 more alive after collapse
Just a few hours after the collapse, authorities were able to confirm that so far there are nine dead people and 10 more rescued alive, who were channeled to various hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Later, the Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson indicated that the number of injured people rose to 49, who are already being treated.
Rescue efforts continue
The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson reported that seven units from the National Guard and State Guard, two from Civil Protection and seven from La Cruz, participated in the rescue actions in the collapse of the roof of the parish of Santa Cruz, in Ciudad Madero.
As well as two cranes, in addition to the fact that units from different civil corporations have arrived at the scene, with supplies and tools.
Governor mourns tragedy in church
The governor, Américo Villarreal, deeply regretted the tragedy that occurred in the parish.
Through his social networks, the Tamaulipas government indicated that the emergency bodies were on the scene attending to the situation.
He added: “My solidarity with all the families who have lost their loved ones and with the community due to this unfortunate accident.”
