INEGI highlights the safest and unsafe cities to live in Mexico

Two Nuevo León cities on the list

San Pedro Garza García, Tampico, Los Cabos, San Nicolás de los Garza, Mérida and Piedras Negras are the six safest cities to live in Mexico, reported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INGEI) in the National Survey of Urban Public Safety (IN ITS).


The city of San Pedro Garza García, presented a rating of 7.1%, ranking as the safest place to live, with 24.4% followed by Tampico, Los cabos with 25.4%, San Nicolás de los Garza with 25.9%, while Mérida and Piedras Negras, obtained a rating of 26.3 and 28.8%.


On the contrary, the cities with the highest perception of insecurity among their inhabitants were: Fresnillo, Cancún, Ecatepec de Morelos, Coatzacoalcos, Naucalpan de Juárez and Tonalá, with 96.2, 88.7, 87.7, 86.9, 86.7 and 86.1%, respectively.

In the edition corresponding to June, 12 cities had significant changes compared to March 2021, four reflected reductions among which are: Álvaro Obregón, Milpa Alta, Ciudad Juárez, Gustavo A. Madero, and eight increased: Mexicali, Xochimilco , Zapopan, Naucalpan de Juárez General Escobedo, Mazatlán, Los Mochis and Hermosillo.


In the exercise carried out by INEGI, during the first fortnight of June, it indicates that 66.6% of the population aged 18 years and over considered that living in their city is unsafe, in the case of women with 71.3%, while for the men was 60.9%.
