Monterrey, Nuevo León.- Civil Protection agents and brigade members mobilized to the northern peak of Cerro de la Silla (Saddle Hill), in Monterrey, after receiving a report of a forest fire, which created a column of smoke visible from miles away. The incident was registered shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 17th, when the fumarole was visible in the municipality of Guadalupe.
Due to the difficult terrain, the brigade members had to travel by air to the affected area. To do this, they established a helicopter base in the Parque Bosque Mágico parking lot. For its part, the Government of the state of Nuevo León supported the brigade members with a helicopter.
When the images of the fire at the Cerro de la Silla were shared on social networks, some users said that it gave the impression of being a volcano with a column of smoke coming out of its crater.
Dozens of brigade members continued working for several hours to quell the fire by air and land. The media report that after hours of hard work, the firefighters in charge of putting out the flames have barely controlled 20% of them.
Civil Protection of Nuevo León reported that a specialized team went to the place to determine the causes of the accidental fire and evaluate the extent of the affected area.
