Volcanic ash is abrasive, making it an irritant to eyes and lungs. Ashfall can cause minor to major damage to vehicles and buildings, contaminate water supplies, and cause severe pulmonary damage if breathed constantly.
Civil Protection warns about the ash fall of the Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, calls for precautions
CDMX.- On the morning of Wednesday, October 7th, the Popocatépetl volcano woke up strongly and with intense activity according to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), so ash fall is expected for the regions of Mexico City and the State of Mexico.
The Meteorology Mexico Twitter account reported that the Popocatepetl volcano emitted an extensive exhalation of ash that is heading towards the State of Mexico and especially in Mexico City in the coming hours.
Civil Protection of the State of Mexico reported that ashfall was detected in the municipalities of Ecatzingo, Atlautla and Ayapango.
