MEXICO CITY (AP) — The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression has formed Sunday night in the central portion of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tropical depression 17 is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm on Monday. The system is located over 1,400 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands.
It has maximum sustained winds at 35 mph. Tropical Storm Julio was downgraded to a tropical depression as it moves rapidly westward away from Mexico’s Pacific coast.
Forecasters said the system had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph Sunday night and it was centered about 260 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula.
